What is Jitter?

Jitter is the difference in time it takes for data packets to reach their final destination and is usually cased by congestion on the network. Packets arrive with different timing and possibly in a different order than when they were sent or spoken which can cause a slight flicker or flash (low jitter) or completely distort the image (high jitter).
