Leading-edge technological equipment and facilities
Lehman College, City University of New York (CUNY), recently unveiled its new Speech and Hearing Center designed to enhance the institution's Department of Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences. The innovative center was designed by IVCi, LLC, a leading integrator of managed enterprise conferencing solutions; a firm that last year secured the statewide Audio/Visual Lab Solution contract allowing any academic establishment operating within the CUNY and SUNY network to receive similar equipment and services.
The new Speech and Hearing center is equipped with leading-edge technological equipment and facilities including observation rooms, a viewing center, six viewing stations, four monitoring stations and a classroom linked to the viewing rooms. Included in the equipment were video conferencing units allowing individuals to communicate and collaborate face-to-face across dispersed facilities.
The Department of Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences serves clients ranging from the very young to the elderly, who receive therapy for many communication disorders including delayed language development, hearing loss, foreign accent reduction, voice, aphasia, autism spectrum disorders, stuttering, dysphasia and motor speech disorders. Diagnostic and therapeutic sessions are supervised by faculty members who are licensed by the New York State Department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, and are all certified by the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA).
