These prestigious Global Awards are presented annually to organizations and individuals engaged in the development and delivery of distance learning programs. Included in the recognition ceremony will be the 21st Century Best Practice Award, as well as the Best Practice Awards for Distance Learning Programming and the Excellence in Distance Learning Teaching Awards.

The USDLA Awards are closely followed by the Distance learning industry. "As we approach our 20th Anniversary as a premier organization for the entire distance learning profession, we enjoy honoring some of the leaders in the industry," said Dr. John G. Flores, CEO of USDLA. "Each year these winners raise the bar and exceed best practice expectations for the industry as a whole, and we are truly honored by their contributions to the Distance Learning industry."

The USDLA Awards were created to acknowledge major accomplishments in distance learning and to highlight those distance learning instructors, programs and professionals who have achieved and demonstrated extraordinary results through the use of online, videoconferencing, satellite and blended learning delivery technologies.

The 21st Century Best Practices Award recognizes pioneering organizations in the field that have changed distance learning, as well as organizations that have challenged existing practice by developing new and innovative solutions for distance learning.

"Videoconferencing for distance education can play a key role in helping educational institutions reach a greater number of students, as well as enrich current classroom curriculum," said Jan Zanetis, Market Development Manager, Education and Training, TANDBERG. "TANDBERG is honored to receive the USDLA's 21st Century Best Practice Award, and we look forward to further supporting the USDLA in promoting distance education applications."

In addition, TANDBERG today congratulates Jody Kennedy and Eastview Middle School on receipt of the USDLA Best Practices in Distance Learning Programming for the "Global Run Project 2005-2006." The award recognizes programs that have designed and delivered outstanding and comprehensive best practices.

In conjunction with TANDBERG, Jody Kennedy, an art teacher and videoconferencing coordinator at Eastview Middle School in White Plains, New York, piloted the Global Run Project, a multidisciplinary service-learning project designed to increase global cultural awareness while simultaneously addressing measured standards in math, science, health, and physical education.

Students in the project have used videoconferencing to connect with students from Australia to Kenya to Mozambique to Ireland. Through the project, students have walked 5,000 miles and raised $10,000 for the past two years for schools in Kenya.
