Codian Makes Public Video Communications as Effortless as a Phone Call
TANDBERG Codian IP GW 3500 Series Delivers a Gateway for Seamless and Secure Voice and Video Communication from the Internet to the Intranet
LONDON, UK - March 20, 2007 - Codian, a leading manufacturer of video conferencing
infrastructure, today announced the launch of its innovative IP GW 3500 Series Voice and Video
Internet Portal. This latest addition to Codian's expanding product portfolio is the most seamless,
intuitive solution for making your organization available to new callers from the Internet.
With the TANDBERG Codian IP GW 3500 Series, an organization can publish a single IP address to
serve as a portal to all its video communications users, comparable to the switchboard number
for traditional telephone calls. No prior set up is required for new Internet users. They are greeted
with either a live operator or auto attendant for professional and efficient call management.
Callers can also use the intuitive auto attendant menu to connect directly to common destinations
or dial in directly using extension numbers.
Widely acknowledged as the industry leader in video conferencing interoperability,
Codian has developed a unique gateway architecture that delivers both outbound and inbound
communication. It provides universal compatibility and optimal IP clarity for each caller's audio
and video, no matter what equipment they use, whether based on SIP or traditional H.323
protocols.
“With our new IP gateway, we are responding to customers' desire to have an easy and
seamless way to hold video conferences with people outside their private networks,” said David
Holloway, CEO of Codian. “Existing solutions for connecting voice and video don't deal
adequately with network address translation and do not deliver universal interoperability. With the
TANDBERG Codian IP GW 3500 Series, communicating over the Internet with IP voice and video can be as
spontaneous and as simple as making a traditional phone call.”
As an application-level gateway, the TANDBERG Codian IP GW 3500 Series ensures that no IP
packets are forwarded from the Internet to the private network. Additional security features
include three levels of user access privileges and individual dial plans for each network port.
“Codian's Voice and Video Internet Portal addresses one of the real-world challenges faced
by today's global organizations," said Ira Weinstein, Senior Analyst and Partner at Wainhouse
Research. "This product transparently enables the connection of voice and video calls between
and within enterprises without compromising network security or ease of use. This latest release
from Codian is yet another example of the company's focus on overcoming barriers to
communication.”
The TANDBERG Codian IP GW 3500 Series is available in three models and supports up to 40 calls,
including 20 video calls. For organizations interested in improving their connectivity with ISDN as
well as IP video conferencing environments, Codian also offers the ISDN GW 3200 Series. For
