IVCi Designs First-of-Its-Kind Cisco TelePresence Lecture Hall for Duke University
IVCi worked with Cisco to provide a custom TelePresence classroom that connects Fuqua business school students with remotely located professors and subject matter experts
IVCi has utilized its extensive audio visual (AV) integration expertise and Cisco TelePresence Authorized Technology (ATP) status to design and install a first-of-its-kind Cisco TelePresence lecture hall for Duke University's School of Business. Located on Duke's campus in North Carolina, this new facility enhances the business school's curriculum by providing students with real-time access to remotely located subject matter experts and professors.
Cisco TelePresence technology uses high-definition video and other immersive features to create life-like virtual meetings. TelePresence is a natural choice for the classroom environment, where live interaction between lecturer and student is critical to successful learning. Duke University's solution was custom designed to accommodate a larger audience size than traditional TelePresence systems, while still maintaining the authentic TelePresence experience.
The custom-built lecture facility includes three 103-inch plasma displays, six 1080p cameras for both panoramic and life-size immersive video experiences, an instructor's podium with two document cameras for sharing class materials, three remote student displays for the instructor to view remote classrooms from the podium, and 66 custom push-to-talk microphones for interactive discussions. IVCi also designed a custom Crestron touch panel for easy system control.

In a recent announcement by Cisco, the company described the benefits of the new lecture hall, stating that it "provides business school students with access to professors, business leaders and guest lecturers located around the globe, extending the in-person classroom environment across campuses and into the business world."
