Classroom video conferencing helps young poets improve performance

On screen, a 13 year old boy steps up from his chair and shakes out his hands, his arms and his legs. He closes his eyes, tips his head back, and takes a deep breath. Suddenly, he squares his head, stares straight out, smiles, and with a clear strong voice says: "My name is Mauricio Gonzalez, and the title of my poem is I Thank Poetry for That." He launches into a personal inventory of the pleasures and pains of writing from the heart, of the anxiety and joys of being in the spotlight, at the microphone, on camera and before a crowd.
