Security and Firewall Traversal

Polycom Video Border Proxy (VBP™) solutions allow video conferences to securely traverse firewalls, while retaining complete network security.

Users of standards-based high definition video endpoints such as the Polycom HDX series can now remotely and securely communicate over video on enterprise or service provider networks.

By performing video NAT at the IP address boundary, Polycom VBP solutions forward video traffic via the shortest path possible to minimize jitter, delay, and packet loss. Polycom VBP solutions fully protect H.323 gatekeepers, video endpoints, and multipoint conference platforms from attack, while safeguarding video quality.

Polycom VBP series also optimize video conference quality through traffic management features such as prioritization, traffic shaping, call admission control, and diffserv marking/policing. In addition, the Polycom VBP series enhances network security with an H.323-aware packet inspection firewall that opens and closes TCP and UDP ports as required.

Polycom VBP secure H.323 proxies enable one public IP to serve all the video communications needs, and with availability for bandwidths from 1 Mbps to 85 Mbps, IT managers can configure the VBP series for centralized or decentralized dial plans.

Polycom VBP solutions support all standards-based video endpoints and multipoint conferencing units, such as the Polycom RMX 2000™ real-time media conferencing platform. Models with optional H.460 support for mobile users or remote locations without video-aware firewalls are also available.
