TANDBERG Expressway

Enabling end-to-end IP visual communication by securely traversing firewalls and NATs.

TANDBERG Expressway Diagram

With TANDBERG’s Expressway solution, visually communicate with suppliers, customers and telecommuters over multiple protocols with full feature sets and functionality. TANDBERG firewall traversal technology tunnels through the firewall barrier safely and seamlessly—for affordable, secure visual communication.

TANDBERG’s unique firewall traversal solution is simple to deploy and provides secure tunneling through any firewall with no feature loss. In fact, it is now easy to deploy IP-video in the home office, simply plug an MXP endpoint into a DSL or cable modem and it works—and is immediately a part of the enterprise dial-plan.

Using URI-based dialing, TANDBERG provides a global, massively scalable dial-plan for end-to-end IP communications. This proven technology allows enterprises to visually communicate with other enterprises on varying dial-plans.

Visually reach suppliers, customers and telecommuters securely. Multiprotocol and Multinetwork Support—for any organization.

TANDBERG Expressway Q and A

Q: What functionality does the TANDBERG Expressway solution provide?

A: The TANDBERG Expressway solution provides seamless traversal of firewalls for any H.323 device and enables universal dialing plans that can be scaled to meet the needs of any organization.

Q: What components are required?

A: A TANDBERG Border Controller plus either a TANDBERG MXP endpoint or a TANDBERG Gatekeeper.

Q: What is the role of the TANDBERG Border Controller?

A: The TANDBERG Border Controller is the specific device that creates a secure 'tunnel' through the firewall and places and receives calls on behalf of systems on the internal network. The TANDBERG Border Controller will work with any firewall.

TANDBERG Border Controller

Q: How many calls can a single Border Controller handle?

A: Release 1 (Q1 2005) - 20 simultaneous calls at 384kbps.

Q: Does the Expressway solution support non-TANDBERG endpoints?

A: Yes. Any H.323 endpoint can register with a TANDBERG Gatekeeper, and the Gatekeeper will then provide Firewall Traversal on behalf of the endpoint. This functionality is an optional software module for the Gatekeeper.

Q: Does the solution support third party MCUs?

A: Yes. The TANDBERG Gatekeeper will provide firewall traversal on behalf of any H.323 MCU. This functionality is an optional software module for the TANDBERG Gatekeeper.

Q: How does the Expressway solution enable a universal dialing plan?

A: TANDBERG MXP systems (F2 software required), TANDBERG Gatekeeper (N2 software required) and the TANDBERG Border Controller support URI dialing. This uses the same naming convention as e-mail (person@companyX.com) as well as using the same technology (DNS) to resolve addressing. With this mechanism a company can implement a dial plan that is globally unique and can be resolved globally by public DNS services available on the Internet. Just as a company can implement an unlimited number of e-mail address that are globally unique, the same can be done for visual communications.

Q: When will this be available?

A: The Expressway solution is available as of February 2005.

Q: What about older TANDBERG endpoints?

A: The TANDBERG Gatekeeper will provide Expressway technology on behalf of any registered H.323 endpoints.
